The attack came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the United Nations that Israel's campaign against Hezbollah would continue.
On September 27, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it had conducted an airstrike on Hezbollah's headquarters in the Dahiyeh suburb of Beirut, Lebanon.
According to sources, a huge explosion flattened buildings in the area.
The attack came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the United Nations that Israel's campaign against Hezbollah would continue and the IDF announced it was carrying out new airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.
Shortly before the blast, thousands of people gathered in the suburb for the funerals of three Hezbollah members, including a senior commander, who were killed in earlier airstrikes.
There is no information yet on casualties in the airstrike.
IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the attack targeted Hezbollah's headquarters, "located below residential buildings."
Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV reported that four buildings were completely destroyed in the blast that shook homes about 30 kilometers north of Beirut.
Israel has significantly stepped up its airstrikes in Lebanon this week. Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad said at least 25 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes early on September 27, bringing the total death toll in Lebanon this week to more than 720.
