In a statement on the Ministry of Health's official website, Minister Budi said reports showed that some children had contracted the virus and the government was closely monitoring the situation. He stressed that this was not a new disease and had been present in Indonesia since 2001. So far, health authorities have not recorded any serious effects caused by this virus.

Mr Budi noted that the disease has symptoms similar to the common flu, and anyone can get it if their immune system is weak. Therefore, he called on people to maintain a healthy and hygienic environment, get enough rest and exercise regularly.

Earlier, Health Ministry spokesman Widyawati also called on people to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of spreading. The Indonesian government is strengthening surveillance at entry points and quarantine measures for international travelers showing signs of flu-like illness.

According to Ms. Widyawati, there is currently no vaccine or specific treatment for HMPV virus. When infected with the virus, patients need to increase hydration, control fever and have appropriate rest. She recommends that people go to medical facilities if they experience respiratory symptoms.
