Frank James, 64, the perpetrator of the New York City subway shooting on April 12, 2022, was sentenced to life in prison for terrorist acts that injured 23 people.
On social network X (formerly Twitter), the Brooklyn Federal Prosecutor's Office issued a statement saying that, at the request of the prosecutor, a US federal judge sentenced defendant Frank James to "10 life sentences, plus 10 consecutive years in prison."
Before the verdict, media reported that the defendant had pleaded guilty on January 3, 2023. Defense attorneys said they would appeal, citing the defendant’s mental health issues and asking for an 18-year prison sentence for their client.
During the morning rush hour of April 12, 2022, Frank James detonated two smoke bombs and fired 30 shots on a subway car in Brooklyn (New York), injuring 10 people with gunshot wounds and 13 people with toxic smoke while fleeing the scene.
The suspect was quickly arrested shortly after the incident. Last month, the prosecutor's office released an indictment stating that at the time of the incident, there were many children on the subway on their way to school, working people, students on their way to school, and even pregnant women.
