The two-door model will be equipped with a 4-cylinder e-HEV hybrid engine like the Accord and Civic, similar in size to the Toyota GR 86 and Subaru BR-Z.
A report from Honda suggests that the new Prelude will have a 2+2 configuration and front-wheel drive. While two other sports cars of the same size and style, the Toyota GR 86 and Subaru BR-Z, are equipped with rear-wheel drive.
According to Bestcarweb, a news site in the land of the rising sun, the new Prelude will be equipped with an e:HEV drive system, which generates electricity using a gasoline engine and is mainly driven by the engine. The engine capacity may be a 2-liter 4-cylinder like the new Civic and Accord. This setup produces 207 horsepower, less than the GR 86 and BR-Z.
The report says the Honda sports car will use an electric CVT, as opposed to a conventional automatic or dual-clutch transmission. The specifications are for the Japanese market only and may vary in other countries, according to Carscoops.
The Honda Prelude Hybrid is expected to cost between $27,300 and $29,400. The Japanese automaker has also confirmed that the Prelude Hybrid will be available in both right-hand and left-hand drive versions. The Prelude Hybrid will hit the market in 2025.
