Do Bach Khoa, grade 12 student of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted (Hanoi) won a gold medal at the 2021 International Mathematical Olympiad and was in the top 10 candidates with high scores in this year's exam.
On the evening of July 23, the Organizing Committee of the 2021 International Mathematical Olympiad announced the results of the competition. All 6 members of the Vietnamese team won prizes, including 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals.
The gold medal went to Do Bach Khoa, grade 12, Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted (Hanoi). Do Bach Khoa was also in the top 10 candidates with the highest scores in this year's exam.
The two silver medals went to Dinh Vu Tung Lam and Truong Tuan Nghia, both 12th grade students at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi).
The three students who won bronze medals were: Vu Ngoc Binh, grade 11, Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted (Vinh Phuc); Phan Huu An, grade 12, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences (Hanoi National University) and Phan Huynh Tan Kiet, grade 12, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (Ho Chi Minh City).
The 2021 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2021) hosted by the Russian Federation was held online from July 14 to 24, with the participation of 619 contestants from 107 countries and territories.
The Vietnamese team of 6 contestants competed online at 2 locations: University of Science - Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (Ho Chi Minh City).
Candidates will take the test at the same time as all candidates taking the IMO 2021 exam on July 20 and 21.
In the context of the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam has made careful preparations, fully meeting the requirements for disease prevention and the professional requirements of the Organizing Committee with the dual goal of both preventing the disease safely, ensuring the health of candidates, and meeting the requirements of seriousness and objectivity in organizing the exam.
With 100% of contestants winning medals, Vietnam ranked 14th overall.
The results of the Vietnamese team at the 2021 International Mathematical Olympiad continued the outstanding achievements of national teams participating in regional and international Olympiads.
This result affirms the efforts and outstanding efforts in studying and training of students, teachers and schools, in the context of the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, at the same time, affirms the quality of general education in the country and the right direction in the work of discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students.
