The pitiful situation of a poor woman born deaf and mute in Tu Ky

Ms. Phung Thi Tam, 65 years old, in An Tu village, Quang Trung commune (Tu Ky, Hai Duong), a poor woman who was born deaf and mute, is currently living alone in very difficult conditions.

After several days of rain, the dirt road leading to Mrs. Tam’s house became even muddier. In the old house, the pillars and beams were rotten and broken in many places. The roof had to be patched up and covered with old fibro-cement sheets borrowed from neighbors. Many of the sheets were old and broken, so when it rained, rainwater seeped into the house.

Mrs. Tam's house has seriously degraded.

Although she couldn't speak, when she saw us coming to visit, Mrs. Tam mumbled and dragged us to see every corner of the house, pointing to the broken and leaky places with a sad expression.

Her house is in such disrepair that it is in danger of collapsing.

In Mrs. Tam's house, the most valuable things are probably a few bags of rice, tightly wrapped in plastic bags to keep them dry. She collects several buckets of rainwater for daily use. Mrs. Tam's meals are therefore simple, consisting of vegetables and beans.

Mrs. Phung Thi Vuong, Mrs. Tam's older sister, said that since birth, Mrs. Tam has been deaf and mute, without a husband or children. Since her parents passed away, Mrs. Tam has lived like that until now. Although she is deaf and mute, fortunately Mrs. Tam is still healthy, so over the years she has been growing 3 sao of rice to take care of herself. The family has 3 siblings living close to each other, but because of difficult circumstances, they cannot help their younger siblings much. Occasionally, Mrs. Vuong only buys them some gifts and cakes.

The crossbeams and pillars in many places in Mrs. Tam's house were broken and rotten, and were temporarily tied together.

"My husband also passed away early, and I have to take care of a disabled child. My younger brother, Phung Van Nhuan, is also in financial difficulty, so he can't help his sister much. Now I just hope to repair the house for Tam so that she has a place to go in and out of the sun and rain, and the family members can feel a little more secure," Ms. Vuong choked up.

Mr. Truong Van Huong, Chairman of the Quang Trung Commune Red Cross Society, said that Mrs. Tam is a household with quite special circumstances in the locality, having a congenital disability, no children, and now being old and weak, making it very difficult for her to live. Currently, her house is also old and seriously degraded.

"In the past, the local government and family members have also helped Mrs. Tam, but it is not worth much compared to the difficulties she is facing. Through this, we hope that benefactors will join hands to help Mrs. Tam soon have a house to avoid the rain and sun," said Mr. Huong.

Any help please send to Mrs. Phung Thi Tam, An Tu village, Quang Trung commune (Tu Ky) or transfer to Tu Ky district Red Cross Association via account number 2312201001930 Agribank Tu Ky branch.
