Visiting the two brothers Nguyen Van Dat and Nguyen Tra My at the end of Cau Con street, zone 1, Tran Hung Dao ward (Hai Duong city) in the twilight of the afternoon, we could see all the difficulties and deprivations of the two children.
In an old, dilapidated flat-roofed house with no valuable furniture, Dat and My are going through difficult years as their relatives pass away one by one.
The two children are from the poorest households in the area. Life is peaceful like everyone else's, although poor, the two children have grandparents and parents to protect them. However, that was a warm story many years ago, before the pain had yet to cover the small house. In 2021, Dat's father unfortunately passed away in a traffic accident, at the end of the year his grandmother also passed away, not long after that his mother left the two brothers to live with their grandfather. By the beginning of 2023, their only support was their grandfather who also passed away due to old age and poor health. In just a short time, relatives continuously passed away, everyone felt sorry for the two children. Mr. Doan Van Cau, Secretary and Head of Area 1 said: "The children are very pitiful. If they did not receive care from relatives, neighbors, and help from society, they would probably drop out of school soon."
After losing their blood relatives, Dat and My received some financial support and daily necessities from their relatives, but that money eventually ran out. In the small house, a cousin came to take care of them every evening, so they felt more secure and less lonely. As they grew older, Dat understood the losses that the two siblings were suffering. Dat hoped to continue studying so that he could escape poverty and take better care of his sister.
Dat is in grade 6 at Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, while My is in grade 5 at Tran Quoc Toan Primary School. With the responsibility of a ward chief, Mr. Cau directly went to the Board of Directors to propose exemption of tuition, clothing, and books for the children. Currently, only My has to pay for monthly boarding meals, the other expenses are waived for both children. Seeing the extremely difficult circumstances of the two children, the People's Committee of Tran Hung Dao Ward has issued an open letter calling for benefactors to support the children. Some people send rice to the children, some people support money to help them have better meals, but these activities are not regular, sometimes one month, sometimes not. Being young and weak, Dat and My cannot earn a living to support themselves.
LittleWho would believe that in the heart of the city there are still such pitiful lives? Besides the care of the school, teachers and local authorities, the two children really need long-term support from society so that they can continue to go to school. Mr. Doan Van Cau added: "The road ahead for Dat and My is very long, if there is any benefactor who can sponsor and raise the two children, that would be great."
All support please send to the People's Committee of Tran Hung Dao Ward, through Mr. Nguyen Van Luc, social and cultural officer; phone number: 0987139399.
