Ngoc needs help to have money for eye surgery

Do Nguyen Bao Ngoc is waiting for surgery at the Central Eye Hospital.

When she was born, Bao Ngoc was normal like any other child. But when she was 2 years old, her family discovered that she was born deaf and mute, unable to communicate. The luckiest thing for her was that she was able to study at the provincial Social Protection Center. Here, she not only learned to communicate with people through written language but also studied culture until grade 5 and learned sewing.

Bao Ngoc's family situation is very difficult. Her parents divorced when she was just 10 years old. Her mother took her younger brother Ngoc to find new happiness. Her father went to work abroad in Taiwan, but due to the hard work and low salary, he escaped and was arrested by the local authorities for 2 years. Recently, her father returned home empty-handed. After her parents divorced, Ngoc lived with her grandmother in a small house in Chua hamlet, Tho Truong village, Lam Son commune. Mrs. Ngọt (Ngoc's grandmother) is old and weak, and has no pension. The two of them live on Ngoc's 560,000 VND/month disability allowance.

Despite living in difficult circumstances and being disabled, Ngoc has tried to learn sewing and go to work. She thought her life would be brighter with a job in hand, but recently her eyesight has gradually become blurred. Her family took her to the doctor, and the doctor concluded that both her eyes had severe cataracts, her left eye had a detached cornea, and she needed urgent surgery to be able to see light. The cost of the surgery was up to hundreds of millions of dong, beyond the family's ability to pay. She is currently waiting for surgery at the Central Eye Hospital.

Ngoc's grandmother choked up as she shared: "I love my grandchild so much. She was born unlucky. For the past few years, we have depended on each other to make ends meet. It was already hard enough to make ends meet. Now that she is sick like this, the hospital has put her in the intensive care unit, and the cost is so great, my family doesn't know what to do."
