On February 16, the South Korean Foreign Ministry announced that officials from this country and Japan held consultations on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
The statement said Youn Jong-kwon, director general of the Foreign Ministry's Nonproliferation and Diplomatic Planning Bureau, met with his Japanese counterpart Katsuro Kitagawa in Tokyo. The two sides shared concerns about North Korea's nuclear and missile threats, as well as its arms trade, which they said violated UN Security Council resolutions. The two sides agreed to continue cooperation at various multilateral levels, including the UN.
