South Korea, US strengthen cooperation in chip and robot manufacturing technology

According to Yonhap news agency, September 21,South Korea and the United Statesagreed to strengthen cooperation in technologychip manufacturing, robotics and other advanced fields through joint research projects.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea said the two countries held a technology exchange forum in Seoul, with the participation of First Vice Minister of Industry of South Korea, Mr. Jang Young-jin, US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves and dozens of experts and representatives of corporations.

Within the framework of the forum, the Korea Advanced Institute of Technology (KIAT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Yale University (USA) to establish a cooperation mechanism related to next-generation technologies.

KIAT has also signed an agreement with the Innovation CenterRobotMassRobotics (USA) on joint robotics projects and signed an MOU to cooperate with a US manufacturer in the field of smart manufacturing.

Forum attendees also discussed ways to deepen cooperation in the chip sector,security policyrelated to technology and ways to enhance the exchange of young talent.

Vice Minister Jang Young-jin said South Korea will allow foreign researchers to participate in industrial engineering projects.

South Korea and the United States will launch about 50 joint research and development (R&D) projects starting in 2024 led by leading companies and global research institutes.
