The Ministry of Labor of Korea announced on April 2 that it will accept applications for a second new labor recruitment license in 2024 for the recruitment of foreign workers under the employment license system for unskilled labor visas (E9).

The registration period is from April 22 to May 3, at local labor recruitment agencies across Korea.

Notably, restaurant and hotel businesses that have had difficulty recruiting Korean workers in the past can also register to recruit foreign workers during this period.

The subject of application for the restaurant industry in Korea is for the position of kitchen assistant, in 100 major local areas.

Meanwhile, the hotel and motel business is for kitchen assistant and building cleaning staff positions and is only deployed in 4 localities: Seoul city, Busan city, Gangwon province and Jeju island.

In addition, the Korean Government allocates recruitment quotas for different industries. Specifically, 4,490 positions are for the service industry, with more than 20,000 positions reserved for flexible allocation when demand increases excessively.

Manufacturing sector is allocated 25,906 people, shipbuilding sector is 1,824 people, agriculture and livestock sector is 4,955 people, fishery sector is 2,849 workers, construction is 2,056 people.

Business owners who need to recruit foreign workers can apply for a recruitment license directly at the local labor recruitment management agency or through the agency's website and will be processed within 7 days.

The results of the second round of recruitment licensing registration will be announced on May 21. The licensing period for manufacturing and shipbuilding industries is from May 22-28, and for agriculture, livestock, fisheries, construction and services from May 29 to June 4. The expected entry time for foreign workers is from the end of July.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to continue accepting applications for the third and fourth batches in July and October this year, respectively.
