Hai Duong organizes congress to establish the Provincial Association of the Elderly

Attending and congratulating the congress were comrades: Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Committee on the Elderly, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly; Nguyen Khac Toan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Minh Hung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Elderly Affairs Committee; leaders of a number of departments, branches, sectors, unions and localities in the province. 95 delegates representing over 320,000 elderly members in the province attended the congress.

From 2021 to present, patriotic emulation movements, typically the movements "Elderly people, shining examples", "Building new rural areas, civilized urban areas" have been widely responded to and participated in by Hai Duong elderly members, achieving positive results. The association at all levels has mobilized families and children to donate 360,792 m2 of land to expand village roads, alleys, and build public works; contributed 87,541 working days and supported nearly 72 billion VND, contributing to the construction of new rural areas and civilized urban areas in the locality.

Attention has been paid to the work of building a strong association. Over 91% of the elderly have participated in association activities with over 320,000 members, operating in 1,404 village and residential area branches belonging to 235 commune-level associations.

Elderly care activities were organized effectively. The whole province provided periodic health check-ups for 234,380 elderly people; established health records for 316,344 people; examined eyes for over 100,000 elderly people, performed cataract surgery for nearly 18,000 people; coordinated longevity celebrations for 114,312 elderly people with a total amount of nearly 52 billion VND.

The whole province has established 148 intergenerational self-help clubs; more than 13,400 elderly people participate in the work of the Party, government, Fatherland Front, mass organizations... at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the congress, comrades Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Committee on the Elderly, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly; Nguyen Minh Hung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Elderly Affairs Committee, stated that the congress to establish the Hai Duong Association of the Elderly is an important event, marking a strong turning point, so that the work of caring for and promoting the role of the elderly in Hai Duong will be raised to a new level.

The comrades requested that the members of the Executive Committee of the Provincial Association of the Elderly, who were recently elected by the congress, uphold the spirit of responsibility, solidarity, unanimity, and have many initiatives to lead the association to achieve higher efficiency. The association needs to urgently improve its organization, build and perfect its operating regulations; develop programs and plans for the entire term and each year to ensure practicality, effectiveness, compliance with legal regulations, and in line with the requirements and tasks of the Central Association of the Elderly of Vietnam and the newly assigned tasks.

Faced with the increasingly rapid aging of the population, comrades suggested that the Hai Duong Elderly Association at all levels continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement policies for the elderly as stated in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the direction of the Party, State and Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; strengthen and improve propaganda, ideological and political work for the elderly.

Organize well the activities to care for members and the elderly through practical and specific activities; care for and encourage the families of members in difficult circumstances, the elderly, lonely, and homeless members; effectively implement the program "Bright eyes for the elderly".

Encourage members to promote the role of "Tall tree - big shade", actively participate in activities to build the political system; carry out the task of socio-economic development in the locality; actively participate in the task of digital transformation of the province and international integration; participate in ensuring security, order and social safety in the area; play a core role in building cultural families and happy families.

Continue to implement the emulation movement "Old age - bright example"; promote exemplary lifestyle. Each member is an example of building a cultural lifestyle, ethical standards, civilization and the spirit of great national solidarity, living happily, living healthily, living usefully, being a good citizen, a good party member at the grassroots, where they live and work.

The Congress elected the Executive Committee of the Provincial Elderly Association for the 2021-2026 term, consisting of 33 members; and elected the Inspection Committee, consisting of 3 members.

At the first meeting, the Executive Committee of the Provincial Elderly Association elected Mr. Luong Anh Te, Head of the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board, to hold the position of Chairman of the Provincial Elderly Association.

At the congress, delegates agreed to approve a number of specific targets from now until the end of the term.

Associations at all levels strive to gather and develop members, reaching 95% or more of the elderly joining the association. By 2025, 100% of the elderly will receive regular health check-ups and health monitoring records; 100% of the elderly will have health insurance (according to the province's plan). Coordinate implementation so that 100% of the elderly who are policy beneficiaries will enjoy benefits, be congratulated and celebrate longevity according to regulations. 100% of grassroots associations will have various types of clubs, each branch will have at least 1 club. Establish at least 70 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs; strive to have 60% or more of grassroots associations have Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs by 2025. 100% of communes, wards and towns will maintain regular activities of the Fund for Care and Promotion of the Role of the Elderly with a balance of 50 million VND or more...
