Originally a specialty of the Eastern land, there was a time when lychee trees were ignored and abandoned by the people because of the problem of good harvest and low prices. However, recently, Thanh Ha lychee has gradually regained its position, dominating demanding markets. Not only that, this specialty has also built and affirmed its brand with consumers through eco-tourism. The pioneers of this direction are the couple Pham Thi Liem in An Lao village, Thanh Khe commune (Thanh Ha).

Thanh Ha lychee specialty of Hai Duong is increasingly affirming its brand on the map of Vietnamese agricultural products.

Under the tireless hard work of Ms. Liem and her husband, the wild water fern field that covered the path after more than 20 years has become the Dong Man eco-tourism sub-area with the highlight being the bright red lychee garden, full of fruit, meeting VietGAP standards. Every lychee ripening season, tens of thousands of tourists from everywhere come here to visit, experience, and enjoy the delicious taste of Thanh Ha lychee. From curiosity, now every summer, tourists from everywhere flock to Dong Man to enjoy the peace and freshness that this green agricultural model brings.

Tourists are excited and eager to visit and experience the lychee ripening season in Dong Man area.

To build an ecological agricultural model combined with tourism from the hometown's specialties, diligence and hard work alone are not enough. Realizing the hardships of farming when spending a lot of sweat and effort but the results are only meager, Ms. Liem boldly and daringly found her own way. Instead of producing based on experience and habits, she learned VietGAP techniques to improve the quality and economic efficiency of lychees. Once successfully applied, she nurtured the desire to spread the value of green, clean, and safe production to the community. Along with clean production, since 2015, she has begun to renovate the garden, planting flowers around the walkways to make the garden more eye-catching and attractive. Thanks to that, her family's agricultural model integrating many values has received attention and support from everyone. Many people come from far away to buy tickets to visit, happily accepting to spend more money to taste lychees that meet export standards. From then on, the value of lychee is not only in output and price but also exploited in many other aspects such as tourism, brand, and quality.

Mr. Nguyen Dac Viem's pig farm in Dinh Son commune (Cam Giang) is not only "huge" in scale but is also considered the most modern in Hai Duong with a synchronous and closed production process. Currently, in addition to meeting about 50% of the parent pigs for households in the province, Mr. Viem is also a trusted partner of many farm owners in major provinces and cities in the North. With nearly 1,000 piglets imported from the US, Belgium, Canada, Denmark... each month, Mr. Viem supplies about 500 sows and 2,000 commercial pigs. When African swine fever broke out, his farm was also immune to this dangerous disease. To achieve this result, Mr. Viem has seriously and systematically applied clean production processes.

The motivation that prompted Mr. Viem to build a closed, high-tech livestock farm was when he witnessed many households go bankrupt because of pig farming. In 2002, after graduating from the Vietnam Agricultural Academy, Mr. Viem joined a famous feed production enterprise in the province. Going to each household to market the product, he was not satisfied because failures in pig farming were mostly due to subjectivity, farmers depended too much on external factors and lacked initiative in production. Therefore, in 2012, he decided to quit his job and pursue economic activities from the farm model with the knowledge he had learned and little capital. Not only strict on livestock farming techniques, Mr. Viem's farm is also a pioneer in applying science and technology to production. All breeding pigs are fitted with chips to determine the physical condition of each animal, thereby making appropriate adjustments in diet and living. Chips also help detect diseases quickly, helping engineers handle them promptly, avoiding unnecessary damage. Feeding and cleaning the pigsty are also fully automated. The amount of food is calculated according to the weight of each pig to avoid waste. The growth and development of the pigs will be recorded in the camera surveillance system installed around the pigsty.

Developing green agriculture in Hai Duong does not stop at single models but has created a great spread. Farmers in the province no longer chase after productivity and output but have focused on investing in quality to increase product value towards clean, organic production. Farmers in Tu Ky district are a typical example when they always preserve and persistently exploit the advantages of nature. From 1999-2000, farmers in areas with alluvial land deposited by the Thai Binh River in the district have limited the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers in the exploitation areas of natural earthworms and clams outside the Thai Binh River. Recently, people have completely stopped using chemical farming methods and switched to organic farming to create a favorable environment for earthworms and clams to thrive. Since then, organic production has become popular and is a vital factor in agricultural development in this locality.

The Thai Binh river alluvial land is more precious than gold to Tu Ky farmers, with a production value of 400-500 million VND/ha/year. Many farmers share that the production value of this alluvial land can be calculated, but the value of the land is difficult to measure because everyone wants to stick with it, not transfer or sell it. Farmers cultivate in harmony with nature, grow organic rice to nourish the soil, allowing the worms and clams to grow. In addition to exploiting the land, farmers also bring water to attract the worms and clams to grow in the fields. On that land, many agricultural products with their own characteristics are cultivated and built, becoming typical OCOP products of the whole province. Tu Ky's organic rice, organic bananas, and natural worms and clams are known and mentioned more by consumers. The prestige of the products and the trust of customers are further strengthened when more than 200 hectares of agricultural production in the district are recognized as meeting the criteria for organic production.

Along with the favorable conditions of nature, the diligence, hard work and dynamism of farmers have "painted" the picture of Hai Duong agriculture more vividly and richly. Reality proves that Hai Duong is a bright spot in the country's agricultural development with diverse varieties and guaranteed quality. The province is known as the agricultural granary of the North with flexible and reasonable internal structural shifts. In the fields of agriculture such as cultivation, livestock and aquaculture, highlights and marks have been created from model points for high economic efficiency.

Based on existing advantages and identifying the role of agriculture as a solid foundation for the economy, Hai Duong province has synchronously deployed many solutions to promote agricultural development. Pursuing the goal of green growth to implement the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress, term 2020-2025, Hai Duong has made high-tech concentrated commodity agriculture and organic agriculture one of the four pillars of development of the province. At the same time, the Project "Developing high-tech concentrated commodity agricultural production and organic agriculture in the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030" was issued to create a premise for building green agriculture to both exploit and preserve and protect means and production conditions. Along with setting goals, Hai Duong issued support mechanisms and policies to encourage and motivate organizations and individuals to develop green agriculture. The province supports people with funding to develop crop and livestock production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and control disease safety. Not only that, Hai Duong also actively transfers techniques and technology, guiding people towards circular production, limiting the impact on the environment.

Hai Duong strives to build green agriculture with environmentally friendly solutions and production techniques.

According to the assessment of Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan during his visits to Hai Duong, Hai Duong is one of the leading localities in developing high-tech agriculture and organic agriculture in the country (after Lam Dong). To date, the whole province has more than 15,500 hectares of vegetables and fruits produced according to GAP processes. Of which, more than 1,500 hectares have been granted certificates of meeting VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. In organic production, Hai Duong has 421.7 hectares cultivated in this direction and 150 hectares have been recognized as meeting the standards. The province has built 287 growing area codes for export. In addition to its strength in clean production in cultivation, Hai Duong also promotes this advantage in the livestock sector. The whole province has 521 livestock facilities meeting the criteria for high-tech agricultural production. 1,000 hectares of aquaculture in the form of “floating ponds” and “rivers within ponds” to minimize impacts on the water environment. Hai Duong is also a pioneer in applying water-saving irrigation technology and building greenhouses and net houses to serve production.

Hai Duong has achieved many positive results in developing green economy.

The province's determination has urged localities to build green agriculture according to the conditions and characteristics of each place. If Tu Ky district has made a breakthrough from organic production to exploit natural products, Gia Loc district has promoted the application of high technology. Kinh Mon town, although being a key industrial area, has not ignored the development of specialized onion and garlic growing areas, becoming the largest onion and garlic "barn" in the North...

According to Tu Ky District Party Secretary Nguyen Ngoc Sam, green agricultural production brings many values, not only improving economic efficiency but also changing the awareness of producers and consumers about clean agricultural products. The locality is actively implementing the Project "Developing concentrated commodity agriculture according to value chains, applying high technology, organic agriculture to ensure food hygiene, connecting with the consumption market in the period of 2021-2025". Through this project, the district hopes to create a breakthrough in agricultural development, towards green agriculture serving the community.

Despite certain achievements, Hai Duong still faces difficulties in its journey to build green agriculture. That is, the awareness of many farmers about green production is still vague. The chain of links to tighten the connection between farmers and businesses is still loose. Support policies to create leverage to promote organic agriculture and high-tech agriculture are still entangled. Resources for agricultural development have not yet met practical needs.

td-ong-quan-18copy.jpg

However, the highlights of green agriculture that Hai Duong has strived to build will be a solid foundation for the locality to continue to aim for higher and larger goals. Green production does not only stop at the small scale of individuals and organizations but will spread throughout the community. Farmers produce not only for economic value but also to protect the environment and protect the health of consumers. From the actual production situation, Hai Duong has proposed solutions to promote the development of green agriculture in the coming time. The province will be determined in directing, operating, and promoting propaganda about the role and value of green agriculture. At the same time, it will pay attention to planning, infrastructure development, and production organization by actively applying science and technology. In addition, Hai Duong pays special attention to human resource solutions. Farmers do not only do pure, simple agriculture but also have responsibility to the community and society.

Green production is the solution to create sustainable agriculture. With suitable production conditions, Hai Duong has been steadfast in this choice, unifying from awareness to action. Green agriculture will guide and lead the development of responsible agriculture for humanity.

Mr. Tran Van Quan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, affirmed that Hai Duong is making efforts to shift from agricultural production to a green agricultural economy. The proof is that the province has promptly issued many programs and projects to serve the development of green agriculture. With its inherent potential and strengths, the province is determined to build a sustainable green agriculture with economic value and profound humanistic significance.

When effectively promoting its role, green agriculture will ensure development opportunities for the future, increase adaptability and resistance to fluctuations, and balance and harmonize economic, social and environmental factors. Respecting and applying natural laws to develop agriculture will contribute to balancing the ecosystem and reducing the pressure of industrialization and modernization.
