Chu Van An and Son Tay High Schools became specialized schools from today, bringing the total number of specialized schools in Hanoi to 4 - the most in the country.
The above decision of Hanoi City People's Committee, effective from today, January 15.
Chu Van An High School for the Gifted (Tay Ho District) and Son Tay High School (Son Tay Town) are public schools, managed by the Department of Education and Training and operate according to regulations on specialized schools.
In recent years, Chu Van An and Son Tay High Schools have had both specialized and non-specialized classes. The annual quota for each system is about 300-500 students in each school. When converted to specialized schools, both schools will no longer be allowed to enroll non-specialized students, according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Thus, Hanoi has 4 specialized high schools, including Hanoi - Amsterdam, Nguyen Hue, Chu Van An and Son Tay, the most in the country. Other provinces and cities usually have 1 specialized school, a few have 2 such as Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Nam, Dong Thap, Binh Dinh, Binh Phuoc, An Giang.
In previous years, the total quota for Hanoi's specialized system was nearly 2,000, but each year, about 11,000 - 13,000 candidates took the exam.
Regarding the benchmark score, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted leads. Candidates must achieve an average of about 8 points per subject to pass. Son Tay High School has the lowest benchmark score, usually 6 - 7 points per subject, and in some years it is only 4 points higher.
