According to a VNA reporter in Tel Aviv, the event was attended by officials from the Embassy, Vietnamese representative agencies, overseas Vietnamese and Israeli friends. All participants were able to wrap traditional Vietnamese banh chung with sticky rice, mung beans, dong leaves and bamboo strings.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Israel Ly Duc Trung introduced to foreign friends traditional customs such as the worshiping of Ong Cong Ong Tao, worshiping ancestors and other customs during the traditional Tet holiday.

For Vietnamese people living far away from home, banh chung is a familiar dish that has been indispensable during the Lunar New Year for generations, but for Israelis, witnessing and participating in making the cake is a strange and exciting experience.

In particular, the Kosher culinary regulations of the Jews do not use pork and pork products, in addition to many other types of meat and fish, not to mention the strict regulations in the processing and usage stages. Therefore, the meat used to make banh chung filling is replaced with chicken, which has won the hearts of Israeli friends.

Mr. Amit Kaufmann, a restaurant chef in Israel said: “After watching you wrap banh chung with sticky rice, green beans, and chicken, I got the idea to make this cake at my restaurant. This will be a very delicious dish according to Kosher standards that Israelis can enjoy. In Vietnam, people eat pork, but most Israelis do not eat pork. Therefore, wrapping banh chung with chicken is a very good idea.”

The "reform" of banh chung has helped promote a traditional dish of the Vietnamese people to the Israeli people, helping them understand more about the beauty in the customs and practices of the Vietnamese people.

In addition, the Chung cake wrapping program brings a space imbued with Vietnamese culture, so that officials of representative agencies and overseas Vietnamese can live in the homeland atmosphere on the occasion of Tet.
