In 2014, while visiting an acquaintance in Van Giang (Hung Yen) and enjoying the pear guava there, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy in My Cau village, Tan Hong commune (Binh Giang) decided to bring this guava variety back to plant. With the application of science and technology, diligence, and accumulated experience in the fertilization process, this guava variety has produced high yields, fragrant, crispy and sweet fruit.

Pear guava is a low-investment crop that does not require much care. After each harvest, farmers must cut off old, diseased or overgrown branches to create ventilation for the guava tree to grow. Pruning also helps the guava tree reduce pests and diseases, increasing the ability to flower and bear fruit. This guava variety has the ability to grow strongly and withstand adverse weather conditions. Ms. Thuy also fixes the guava branches at a moderate height for convenient fertilization.

According to Ms. Thuy, one of the most important steps that determines the quality of guava is fertilization. Instead of chemical fertilizers, Ms. Thuy uses decomposed organic fertilizer to fertilize guava trees. At each stage of fertilization, it is necessary to regularly observe and promptly detect pests and diseases for treatment.

Pear guava can bear fruit all year round, but Ms. Thuy lets the tree focus on bearing fruit from September to December because at this time the guava fruit is larger, and when there is a dry wind, it is also crispier and sweeter.

From the time the guavas were still small, Mrs. Thuy carefully wrapped them in plastic bags to ensure their appearance and limit pests. By applying science and technology, summarizing and accumulating experience in the process of planting and fertilizing, every guava tree in her family's rows is full of fruit.

In 2022, Ms. Thuy chose pear guava to participate in the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) Program and was recognized as a 3-star OCOP. After that, her family's pear guava became known to many people. During the harvest season, traders and customers came to the garden to buy. The main consumption market is in the province and some neighboring localities.

Tan Hong pear guava has a more fragrant and sweeter flavor than traditional guava varieties, so it is favored by many people. Ms. Thuy also actively shares her experience in growing and caring for pear guava with farmers in the commune.

Mrs. Thuy's family's guava garden is about 3,600 square meters wide, with an average yield of about 8 tons/crop. During the main season, the price of each kilogram of guava is from 20,000 to 25,000 VND, and Mrs. Thuy's guava garden brings in a profit of about 200 million VND/year.
