Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch coordinated with the Police Department for Investigation of Crimes on Corruption, Economy, Smuggling, and Environment (Hanoi City Police) and Noi Bai International Airport Police to inspect the luggage and goods of the above male passenger.
At the inspection area, the male passenger took out 7 pieces of yellow metal, suspected to be gold, of which 5 pieces were around the waistband of his pants and 2 pieces were in the soles of his shoes.
This person confessed that he was hired to transport gold from Hong Kong (China) to Vietnam. When he successfully entered the country, someone would pick him up at Noi Bai airport and collect the gold, paying him 100 Hong Kong dollars per piece of gold.
Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch handed over the subject, documents, and exhibits to the Department of Police Investigation of Corruption, Economic, Smuggling, and Environmental Crimes for further investigation and handling according to regulations.
Previously, using a similar trick, on October 4, the Customs Branch at Noi Bai International Airport also discovered a young foreign man hiding 3 metal bars suspected to be gold, weighing about 3kg, worth about 6 billion VND.
