The demand for vegetables in Hai Duong has increased during the cold days. The prices of some winter vegetables such as cabbage, kohlrabi, tomatoes, etc. have increased by 50-60%.
Severe cold weather has slowed down the growth of winter vegetables, while consumer demand has increased. The amount of vegetables produced cannot meet market demand, so the prices of some winter vegetables have increased by 50-60% compared to last week.
Currently, cabbage is sold at the field for 90,000 VND/20 kg bag, an increase of 30,000 VND/bag; kohlrabi is 5,000 VND/root, an increase of more than 2,000 VND/root; tomatoes are 11,000 VND/kg, an increase of 4,000 VND/kg; cucumbers are 12,000 VND/kg, an increase of 4,000 VND/kg. Some other vegetables also increased in price slightly.
According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong), although severe cold has slowed the growth of some winter crops, the yield and quality of vegetables have increased. If the cold weather continues, vegetable prices will tend to increase further.
As of December 23, the whole province has harvested more than 9,000 hectares of winter vegetables, accounting for more than 40% of the planted winter vegetable area (21,781 hectares).
