The Vietnam Register said that in Vietnam, a total of 5,675 Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles manufactured and assembled from 2017 to 2018 need to return to the factory to replace the ABS brake system fuse.

These are vehicles manufactured and assembled by Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam Automobile Manufacturing Joint Stock Company from April 28, 2017 to October 27, 2018 at Gian Khau Industrial Park, Gia Tran Commune, Gia Vien District, Ninh Binh Province.

The ABS brake system fuse replacement program will begin from now until September 1, 2050. The inspection, repair and replacement time is expected to take about 0.2 hours per vehicle and is completely free of charge.

According to the Vietnam Register, the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is an anti-lock braking system - one of the active safety systems on cars. ABS helps reduce the risk of accidents by controlling the braking process in an optimal way.

The ABS braking system on a car is made up of components including a speed sensor, a hydraulic control valve and a control system. In particular, the hydraulic control valve of the ABS system (HECU - Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit) has a self-diagnosis function to support the driver in emergency situations by actively adjusting and accumulating pressure in the braking system, by controlling the pump motor and the electronic valves to adjust the pressure on each wheel separately, avoiding the situation of the brakes being locked leading to skidding, thereby increasing the stability of the vehicle's movement.

The affected Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles have a HECU control board that has the potential to short circuit and may lead to a fire in the HECU control board and engine compartment. At the same time, the ABS braking system will not work effectively, leading to the wheels locking up, losing the ability to move stably when the vehicle is traveling at high speed, braking suddenly and holding the brake continuously.

Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam Automobile Manufacturing Joint Stock Company also said that up to now, there have been no recorded cases related to this error. However, to comply with current regulations and ensure customer rights as well as vehicle safety, the Company decided to implement the above program to replace the ABS brake system fuse.

The manufacturer also recommends that, for their own benefit, customers should quickly bring their vehicles and contact authorized dealers of Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam Automobile Joint Stock Company, an authorized representative of Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam Automobile Manufacturing Joint Stock Company nationwide for free replacement and repair.
