About 85,000 Ford Explorers are being recalled because of a risk of engine fire due to oil and fuel accumulating near the ignition area.

On July 16, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that Ford planned to recall about 85,000 Ford Explorer SUVs due to the risk of engine fires, posing a danger to users.

It is known that the recalled Explorers are at risk of oil and fuel spilling into the engine compartment and accumulating near the ignition area, easily causing a fire.

Specifically, Ford Explorers manufactured from 2020-2022, using hybrid powertrain and 3.3L gasoline engine, equipped with Police Interceptor Utility package are subject to recall for repair.

The Police Interceptor Utility package on Explorer includes powertrain options, reinforced body structure and increased cargo capacity in the trunk compared to other standard Explorer models on the market. This package was launched by Ford in 2013, used on police vehicles, popular in the US.

Previously, Ford also advised customers in the US and Canada not to drive older models equipped with faulty Takata airbags until they have been replaced. More than 374,000 Ford models, including Ranger, Mustang, Fusion manufactured from 2004-2014, have faulty Takata airbags that can explode in a collision, causing metal fragments to fly into the vehicle occupants, causing injury.

Most recently, Ford Vietnam also recalled 60 Ford Everest vehicles imported from Thailand, manufactured from July 7, 2022 to March 1, 2023 to replace injectors and upgrade engine control software.
