I am not afraid of the revolution of streamlining the apparatus because I have never thought that working in a government agency means not having to worry about losing your job for the rest of your life, as many people have the illusion of.
I am 30 years old, a civil servant at an agency that is expected to be merged to streamline the apparatus in Ho Chi Minh City. With the changes happening and the risk of losing my job, many of my colleagues are quite worried, not knowing where they will go if they are included in the streamlining.
However, many others, including me, do not feel burdened by this. A 31-year-old colleague even said:“That’s good, I’ve been thinking about starting a business for a long time but I’ve been putting it off because I can’t bear to leave my current job. This is also an opportunity for me to break free and move in a new direction.”
Another woman has been quietly studying for a second degree in law and is about to graduate. If she loses her job in the upcoming streamlining of the apparatus, she will focus on continuing her legal training and passing other steps to obtain a certificate to practice law.“I have long been aware that working in a government agency does not mean lifelong stability, so I have prepared myself for change.”she said
I was still discussing with my friends how to spend the upcoming year-end holidays. When a colleague asked me why I wasn’t worried, I honestly replied that if I was eliminated from this agency, I was confident that I would soon have a new job in a private enterprise. It’s not that I was arrogant, but from the first day there was information about the revolution to streamline the apparatus and about the agencies that were expected to merge, many acquaintances who worked in large enterprises called me, asked about the situation and invited me to work at their places, with a very sincere attitude.
That’s because during the time I supported businesses as a government employee, they knew my ability to perceive, analyze and solve problems. Even before the story of streamlining the apparatus, many business leaders invited me to come back with attractive salaries.
The important thing is that since I started working, I have never thought that working in a government agency would mean that I would never have to worry about losing my job for the rest of my life, as many of my colleagues have imagined. The 9x generation has witnessed rapid changes in the world and we are always aware that nothing stays the same forever, especially in work. Nowadays, whether working for the government or the private sector, everyone must be ready for change at any time, even overnight.
Therefore, I always remind and force myself to learn and upgrade myself so that if one day I want to change or am forced to change my working environment, there will always be a place to welcome me.
In the era of social media platforms developing rapidly and many new jobs appearing, many freelancers still have extremely high incomes. Why should we be afraid of unemployment or poverty when leaving a government agency if we have the qualifications and ability?
Most people who are recruited into government service have to meet very high and comprehensive standards. Even my colleagues who are very worried about their future after the merger are not bad. I think what they lack is flexibility and a willingness to change.
