Do not force students
This school year, Nghia An Secondary School (Ninh Giang) has 146 9th grade students. It is expected that 131 students will want to take the 10th grade entrance exam. The remaining students intend to apply to the District Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center.
Teacher Nguyen Thi Ngoi, Principal of Nghia An Secondary School, said that teachers have integrated counseling through subjects in class and class activities. In particular, through district-wide surveys, mock exams and students' academic achievements, the school has classified students to effectively direct their streams.
Similarly, this school year, Gia Luong Secondary School (Gia Loc) has 68 9th grade students. It is expected that 46 students will wish to take the 10th grade entrance exam. The remaining 22 students will be admitted to the District Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center.

All are based on the voluntary spirit of students and parents.
Student Bui Thi T., class 9A, Gia Luong Secondary School said: "I know my own ability, so to avoid pressure, I will choose to study at the District Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center."
Gia Luong Secondary School (Gia Loc) has about 30% of 9th grade students who do not wish to take the 10th grade high school entrance exam.
Student classification
To effectively review for students, secondary schools have conducted surveys, analyzed quality, classified students, and from there proposed measures to supplement missing knowledge and skills for students.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoi, Principal of Nghia An Secondary School, added that at this time, students who wish to take the 10th grade exam have been divided into classes with different levels so that teachers can organize appropriate review sessions. Teachers also focus on reviewing each topic, classifying students according to their academic ability to assign appropriate study tasks.
Viet Hoa Secondary School (Hai Duong City) has 143 9th graders, and it is expected that about 90 students will register for the 10th grade exam. At this time, the school has just focused on completing the morning curriculum, and in the afternoon, it will increase the review time for the students. After completing the main curriculum, it is expected to increase the review time to the whole morning.
The school has arranged for experienced and well-qualified teachers to review for 9th grade students. Teachers pay special attention to the progress of each student, from which they have their own review solutions, suitable to the school's conditions and the students' abilities, creating the most comfortable psychology for them.
Mr. Hoang Dinh Quynh, a math teacher at Viet Hoa Secondary School, said that in each review session, each group will go to the board to solve each question according to the structure of the 10th grade exam. The classmates will evaluate and comment together, the teacher will analyze the students' work from 0.25 points onwards, pointing out the limitations so that the students can learn from their experiences immediately. "The teacher not only closely follows the exam structure of Hai Duong province but also collects different types of questions and math problems from localities in and outside the province, on the internet... to help students have diverse access to different types of math problems," Mr. Quynh shared.
Luong Thi Ngoc Anh, class 9A, Viet Hoa Secondary School, said that she has been dividing her time reasonably to study each subject and do many different types of questions. She usually wakes up at 4-5am to memorize, and studies until 10:30pm in the evening. "I hope I will get good results in the upcoming exam to get into Nguyen Van Cu High School," Anh said.
Mr. Do Duy Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said that he has requested the Departments of Education and Training to direct secondary schools to proactively develop review and exam plans for 9th grade students; classify students for effective review. Regarding streaming, students should not be forced to choose a path after secondary school because some parents have reported that the way teachers advise and guide them makes them feel forced. To overcome this limitation, the Department is consulting with the Departments of Education and Training on a plan to change the way the average score of the 10th grade entrance exam is calculated.
