According to the report of the People's Committee of Chi Linh City (Hai Duong), the locality currently has 3,422 hectares of lychee, a decrease of 8 hectares compared to the same period last year.
The reason for the decrease is that many households have switched to growing new crops with higher economic efficiency such as longan, custard apple, and dragon fruit. Chi Linh currently has 20 growing area codes for export to China with a total area of about 450 hectares; 3 growing area codes for export to the markets of Australia, Japan, and the US with an area of about 100 hectares. The lychee growing area is concentrated in some localities such as Hoang Hoa Tham, Bac An, Hoang Tan, Hoang Tien...
According to the Economic Department (Chi Linh), the rate of flowering of lychee in the main crop this year is low, about 25% because at the time of flowering, the weather is warm, the temperature is higher than the average of many years, combined with high humidity for a long time. Unfavorable weather can easily cause pests and diseases to harm lychee trees. Currently, farmers in Chi Linh are actively taking care of and preventing early-season pests and diseases on fruit trees according to the instructions of professional agencies.
