Rose's cape from "Titanic" up for auction

According toDaily MailOn July 19, PropStore will auction Rose DeWitt Bukater's (played by Kate Winslet) costume in an online session.Entertainment Memorabilia, scheduled for August 15-18.

Organizers said this was not the only dress Winslet wore in the sinking scene. Because the costume had to be submerged in water, producers prepared several copies as replacements.

The cape appears in the scene where Rose talks to engineer Thomas Andrews, who designed the Titanic, as the ship is sinking. Jack is handcuffed as a suspect in the theft of a diamond necklace. The scene where Rose throws the cape down the flooded stairs to save her lover is the last time the audience sees the cape in the film.

Five years ago, GWS Auctions sold the first one for $270,000. In 2023, another copy went for $110,400 through Goldin. However, the garment is not yet in theTitanichighest price. At a 2012 Paul Fraser Collectibles auction, a fan paid $330,000 for the red dress Rose wore when she first met Jack.

Rose's cape is one of nearly 2,000 Hollywood artifacts up for auction, the site said. The star item is Indiana Jones' cowboy hat from the film.Temple of Doom(1984), estimated at $500,000.

The auction also offers the tiara Elizabeth Taylor wore during theCleopatra(1963), whip inWonder Women(2017) and many props from movies likeStar Wars: Return of the Jedi(1983),Forrest Gump(1994),Mr. and Mrs. Smith(2005),James Bond: Skyfall(2012),Captain America: Civil War(2016).
