Marc Tessier Lavigne - President of Stanford University (USA), must resign on August 31, after a series of accusations of fraud and serious errors in 5 scientific research articles under his name.
Sohu reported that Stanford University has just announced the results of an investigation into scientific research violations by Marc Tessier Lavigne, the university's president. The report said that out of 12 studies published in the journal Biology under his name, 5 had serious data violations. Of these, 3 had to be retracted and 2 had to be revised.
The panel concluded that the 2009 study, conducted when Marc Tessier Lavigne was CEO of the biotechnology company Genentech, was problematic and fell short of scientific rigor and process standards.
Although there was no evidence that he engaged in dishonest conduct in the study, the panel found that the Stanford University president did not directly check or correct errors in the experimental results. This led to data fraud.
As a result of the investigation, the Stanford University President will have one study published in the journal Cell in 1999 and two other studies published in the journal Science in 2001 revoked. In addition, two studies related to Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease published in the journal Nature in 2009 will have to be revised.
