Throughout his life, General Khamtai Siphandone devoted his intelligence and strength to the revolutionary cause of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, to the development of the country and to the prosperous life of the people.
According to a special announcement on the evening of April 2 from the Central Committee of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the National Assembly, the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction, General Khamtai Siphandone, former Chairman of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, former President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and veteran revolutionary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on April 2, 2025, at the age of 102.
General Khamtai Siphandone is one of the first generation core leaders of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, who led and directed the previous national democratic revolution and the cause of protecting and developing the country.
Comrade General Khamtai Siphandone was also a pioneer in organizing and implementing the Party's comprehensive and principled renovation policy. He was an exemplary patriot, revolutionary, and an outstanding leader of the Party and the Lao people.
Throughout his life, General Khamtai Siphandone devoted his intelligence and strength to the revolutionary cause of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, to the development of the country and to the prosperous and happy life of the Lao people of all ethnic groups.
The passing of General Khamtai Siphandone is a great loss to the Lao Party, State and people of all ethnic groups.
In this moment of infinite sorrow and regret, the entire Party, the entire Army and all Lao people of all ethnic groups will turn the infinite sorrow and regret for the eternal passing of Comrade General Khamtai Siphandone into practical action, unite alongside the Party Central Committee, promote the heroic tradition of the country and the Party, determined to implement the Party's renewal policy in depth, continue to perfect the people's democracy regime and advance towards the goal of socialism.
To express our respect, deep gratitude and infinite sorrow for General Khamtai Siphandone, the Central Committee of the Lao Party, the National Assembly, the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction decided to hold a national funeral for 5 days, from April 3 to 7 at the National Convention Center in Vientiane.
