Phu Tho postpones many activities on the occasion of Hung King's death anniversary during the 2-day national mourning for former Lao President

Phu Tho province stopped, postponed, and canceled many entertainment activities on the occasion of the Hung Kings' death anniversary in 2025, during the two-day national mourning for former Lao President Khamtay Siphandone.

On April 4, the province will not organize a palanquin procession to Hung Temple; lion and dragon dance performances; water puppetry performances; night cultural and artistic performances at Van Lang Park; youth dance group exchanges; folk dance and ballroom dancing exchanges.

The opening ceremony of the photo exhibition at Hung Temple will still be held, but the welcome program will be cut. However, the exhibition activities such as the book fair that took place before will still be maintained.

The Viet Tri Open Rowing Tournament scheduled to be held at Van Lang Park Lake on April 5 will be moved to 7am on April 6. For the Hung Vuong Cup Volleyball Tournament, the matches on April 4 will be moved to April 6, April 5 to April 7 and April 6 to April 8. Tickets already purchased will still be valid for the new competition date.

Main activities of the Hung Kings' death anniversary such as incense offering by Party and State leaders on the morning of April 7 (March 10 of the lunar calendar) and high-altitude fireworks display at Van Lang Park at 8 p.m. on April 6, took place as usual.

On the occasion of the Hung Kings' death anniversary, Phu Tho Provincial Police mobilized about 1,000 officers and soldiers to ensure security and order. Last weekend, more than 32,000 people came to Hung Temple to worship early.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of Hue City, signed a document requesting the suspension of entertainment activities during the two days of national mourning. This morning, agencies in the city flew flags at half-mast to commemorate former Lao President Khamtay Siphandone.

Organizing CommitteeVnExpressMarathonHuealso announced the postponement of the Kun Marathon race date (for 2,000 children aged 6-10) from 6am on April 5 to 9:30am on April 6. The Kun Marathon racekit distribution time will take place from 8am to 6pm on April 4.

To express condolences to former Lao President Khamtay Siphandone and based on the special Vietnam-Laos relationship, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold a national mourning ceremony for former Lao President Khamtay Siphandone on April 4-5.

During this time, agencies and offices nationwide and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad will fly flags at half-mast, with mourning bands, and will not organize public entertainment activities.

Former Lao President Khamtay Siphandone passed away at 10:30 a.m. on April 2 at his home in the capital Vientiane. Laos held a five-day national mourning period from April 3 to 7 at the National Convention Center in Vientiane.
