At least 575 people have been charged. British authorities are moving quickly to resolve cases as the violence subsides and the government vows to punish those involved severely. Among those charged on 13 August was a 13-year-old girl who admitted threatening violence outside a refugee housing complex in Aldershot. Another man pleaded guilty to taking advantage of the chaos to loot shops and commit acts of racially motivated assault and vandalism.

Senior Prosecutor Thomas Power stressed that this alarming incident would cause fear for the victims. He affirmed that rioting on such a large scale was unacceptable and the Crown Prosecution Service would not hesitate to respond swiftly and forcefully to maintain law and order.

Unrest and riots in the UK erupted on July 29 after a series of stabbings at a children's yoga and dance class in the town of Southport in Merseyside, England, that left three children dead and 10 injured. Immediately after the attack, false information spread on social media, claiming that the perpetrator was a Muslim immigrant. This sparked protests, which turned into riots in Southport and violence in several towns and cities across the UK in the following days. Local authorities accused far-right agitators and other opportunists of exploiting the tragedy to promote anti-immigration and anti-Muslim sentiment.
