The UPU International Letter Writing Competition has been organized by the Universal Postal Union since 1971. It is a useful playground for students aged 9-15, helping to develop writing skills and creative thinking.

In Vietnam, the competition has become a prestigious activity, attracting more than 1.5 million students/year. The 2024 competition ended with the theme: "Write a letter to future generations about the world you hope they will inherit".

Recently, many fake UPU contest fan pages have appeared on Facebook. These pages post false information, luring students and parents to participate in fake contests in order to defraud and steal personal information and assets.

Vietnam Post Corporation (Vietnam Post) warns that by creating a fake fanpage impersonating the UPU international letter writing contest to post information about the fake contest, promising attractive prizes, scammers lure students and parents to register in order to steal information and assets.

According to Vietnam Post Corporation, the official fanpage of the contest in Vietnam has only one address: "facebook.com/cuocthivietthuupuvietnam".

Activities on this page are managed by the Organizing Committee including: Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Education and Training, Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Young Pioneers and Children Newspaper, and Vietnam Post.

The organizers recommend that parents and students need to be vigilant and follow the "3 no's" principle: do not follow requests from unofficial fanpages or websites; do not provide personal information or bank accounts; do not access strange links or make any payments without verifying the origin.

To avoid scams, the Ministry of Information and Communications recommends that people be cautious when receiving information from Facebook pages about online contests or programs, and request clear verification of the identity of the organizer before participating.

In case of being scammed, people need to immediately report to the nearest police station for support and resolution.
