Master's degrees are being recruited and trained by most universities across the country with output quality that meets the needs of society. To know if a master's degree is classified differently from a university degree, let's find out in the content of the article below.

Are master's degrees graded?

Through the master's program, students will have more interdisciplinary knowledge and capacity to perform professional work as well as scientific research in their field of study.

According to Circular 27/2019 of the Ministry of Education and Training, master's degree classification is no longer a mandatory element recorded on master's degrees in Vietnam. Instead, the master's degree will clearly state the following information:

  • Degree name
  • Training industry
  • Name of the educational institution that issued the degree
  • Date of birth of recipient
  • Graduation rank (if any)
  • Address and date of issue of certificate
  • Function, signature, surname, middle name, name of the person with the authority to issue the certificate and stamp as prescribed
  • Data, original book of diploma issuance.

Therefore, a master's degree will not have the same grades as a regular university degree: average, good, excellent.

How many years does it take to get a master's degree?

According to the Master's degree training regulations issued with Circular No. 15/2014/TT-BGDDT of the Ministry of Education and Training, the master's degree training period lasts from 1 to 3 years, depending on the type of study.

Specifically, for majors and majors at university level with a training period of 5 years or more and accumulated knowledge of 150 credits or more, the study period will be at least 1 academic year (corresponding to a minimum of 30 credits).

As for majors and majors at university level with training time of less than 5 years and accumulated knowledge volume of 120 to less than 150 credits, training must be from 1 to 1.5 years (corresponding to a minimum of 45 - 60 credits).

Based on the entry requirements and regulations on training programs, the head of the training institution shall specify the training period and the extension of the training period in accordance with each training sector and major. The extended training period shall not exceed two years compared to the standard training period specified above.
