On August 24, Polish President Andrzej Duda called on NATO to agree to allow member countries to shoot down Russian missiles on Ukrainian territory.
The reason given was that Russian missiles had repeatedly violated NATO airspace, specifically Poland.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, Mr Duda said the issue remained a "red line" for many NATO countries, but discussions were ongoing: "I hope that NATO members will eventually be convinced of the need for this move."
According to Mr. Duda, Poland was the first country to propose this issue at the NATO conference in Paris in February.
Weapons to carry out the mission will be deployed on NATO territory or airspace.
The Polish president also revealed that he had discussed this topic with President Zelensky and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
