At its peak, more than 40,000 people reported problems accessing social network X.
Billionaire Elon Musk's social network X just experienced a major cyber attack on March 10, making users in Asia, Europe and North America unable to access the platform.
According to the monitoring site Downdetector, at its peak, more than 40,000 people reported the problem. Mr Musk said it was a large-scale attack, likely carried out by a nation state or an organised group.
In an interview with Fox Business, he said the computers used in the attack appeared to have IP addresses from the Ukraine region.
Cybersecurity expert Chad Cragle from defense platform Deepwatch said the prolonged outage was a sign of a targeted attack.
The incident raises questions about whether billionaire Musk is being targeted, or whether the decision to drastically cut staff at Twitter (formerly known as X) is having consequences for the social network.
Since Mr. Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion in late 2022, most of its employees have quit or been fired, raising concerns about the platform's ability to maintain safety and stability.
