Ms. Pham Thi Len, President of the Association for Promotion of Education of Le Hong Commune (Thanh Mien) received a certificate of merit from the Vietnam Association for Promotion of Education.

Ms. Len used to be a teacher at Lam Son Secondary School, then Principal of Le Hong Secondary School. Since 2000, the Le Hong Commune Education Promotion Association was established, Ms. Len was both a manager at Le Hong Secondary School and an active member of the association. In 2008, after retiring, Ms. Len continued to be associated with the Le Hong Commune Education Promotion Association.

Since then, Ms. Len has always devoted herself to helping dozens of poor students continue to go to school. People in Le Hong commune affectionately call Ms. Len “Mrs. Teacher” because of her closeness, enthusiasm, and responsibility for the cause of education and promoting learning and talent in the locality.

What Mrs. Len remembers most is the situation of Phan Thi Ngoc Anh and Phan Thi Ngoc Anh. Their father went missing and their mother left when they were young, so they had to live with their grandmother. The grandmother was old and weak, had diabetes, and had to take care of an uncle with a mental illness. Mrs. Len said: That morning, when I went to the market, I met the grandmother of the two children. She complained that she had to send the two children to an orphanage because she could not take care of them anymore. After that, she encouraged them and affirmed that she would help the two children continue to go to school. Mrs. Len contacted the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee for help. Through the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Hai Duong Clean Water Trading Joint Stock Company supported the two children with 60 million VND for 5 years. Thanks to that, the two children continued to go to school like their friends.

Another case is in 2020, half a month into the new school year but Dang Thi Thanh Hang, a student at Le Hong Secondary School, has not returned to school. Hang intends to drop out of school. She has no father, her mother got married, she lives with her grandmother who works as a scrap collector. When she learned that she dropped out of school because she did not have money to buy new books, Mrs. Len promptly encouraged her and personally took Hang back to school. Her house is 3 km from the school, Mrs. Len was able to persuade a business to give Hang a bicycle to go to school. Mrs. Len also asked the school to sponsor Hang throughout her time at school.

Among the students that Ms. Len has helped, many have become successful. A typical example is Ms. Phan Thi Lan, whose parents both passed away when she was in 6th grade. Ms. Len applied for a 10 million VND scholarship and asked the middle and high schools to support her throughout her studies. Ms. Lan is currently working as a doctor in Hai Phong.

With her dedication and responsibility, Ms. Len always creates trust with organizations and individuals. In particular, the majority of the funding comes from the successful students that Ms. Len taught. The Education Promotion Fund of the Le Hong Commune Education Promotion Association has increased from 4 million VND to 100 million VND. This fund has helped many generations of students to go to school; promptly commend and encourage teachers, students, and university students with excellent achievements in studying and teaching.

“All of these actions come from a teacher’s love for her students. I always keep in mind that I will try not to leave any student behind,” said Ms. Len.

According to Ms. Len, to do well in the work of encouraging learning, one should not be afraid of difficulties and hardships. One must go to the field, to each house to grasp and encourage each student. At the same time, propagate and mobilize people to pay attention to their children's learning, encourage emulation in studiousness, and build a learning society.

Mr. Vu Duc Thanh, Chairman of Thanh Mien District Association for the Promotion of Education, said that Ms. Len had many effective ways to attract many resources for the promotion of education in the area, helping many disadvantaged students to go to school. Under Ms. Len's leadership, the movement to promote education, encourage talents, and build a learning society has received a lot of attention and support from the people.
