On November 27, more than 50 scientists from around the world gathered at the ICISE Center (Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh) to attend the "2nd SAGI Astrophysics Workshop on Dust Polarization".
The 2nd Astrophysics Conference attracts 50 world scientists to attend
The workshop is part of the 19th "Meeting Vietnam" program in 2023 in Binh Dinh, organized by the Vietnam Meeting Science Association (ICISE Center).
The 2nd Astrophysics Workshop on Dust Polarization is the place where 50 scientists gather both in person and online from 12 countries and territories: India, China, Taiwan, Japan, USA, Korea, Italy, France, Croatia, Germany...
Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Chi Thiem - Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, Korea (KASI) - said that we are living in the golden age of dust polarization measurements, in which dust polarization is observed by the most powerful observatories: ALMA, NOEMA, IRAM / Nika2-Pol... spanning all scales of the universe, from the galactic scale to the interstellar medium, molecular clouds, star-forming and planet-forming regions to the debris disks and shells of "dying" stars.
Many young scientists from around the world were present at the ICISE Center to participate in the conference.
"This workshop aims to use the fundamental theory of dust polarization both qualitatively and quantitatively to model and simulate calculations, to generate polarization data and to synthesize and compare those results with real observations.
The combined power of theory, computation and observation promises that dust polarimetry will become a precise diagnostic of astrophysics, which can help solve long-standing questions and potentially open new frontiers of astrophysics. In order to facilitate scientific collaboration, focusing on research in the field of astrophysics", Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Chi Thiem added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Nguyen Trong Hien - from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), head of the SAGI Astrophysics Group at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research and Education (IFIRSE) of the ICISE Center - said that this workshop is an opportunity for domestic and foreign researchers to discuss dust polarization.
This is also an opportunity for young researchers and students in Vietnam to have the opportunity to interact with international scientists in astrophysics.
