Many children aged 4-7 years old with metabolic disorders and genetic disorders requiring long-term treatment will have their health insurance fund cover large costs, about more than 1 billion VND in the first half of 2023.
According to information from the Vietnam Social Security (VSS), from 2022 to the first 6 months of 2023, there were 94 patients nationwide who had their health insurance fund pay for medical examination and treatment costs of over 1 billion VND.
Of these, the patient who received the highest payment from the health insurance fund was 4.69 billion VND. That was a child born in 2018 (in Tho Tang town, Vinh Tuong district, Vinh Phuc province), suffering from another disorder of carbohydrate metabolism (a disease that can occur when there is a defect in the process of forming glucose from other sugars or from starch). In 2022, the child was paid 2.94 billion VND, in the first 6 months of 2023 it was 1.75 billion VND.
The second patient to receive a large amount of health insurance payment from the health insurance fund is a 5-year-old patient in Tien Phong commune, Yen Dung district, Bac Giang, suffering from glycogen storage disease and acute bronchitis. In the first six months of the year, the child received nearly 1.76 billion VND, the total from the beginning of 2022 is 3.88 billion VND.
The third patient was born in 2019 (in Hai Duong province) with other specified metabolic disorders, bronchopneumonia. The patient was paid 3.68 billion VND by the health insurance fund, of which 1.63 billion VND was paid in the first 6 months of 2023.
The fourth patient is a 6-year-old child in Ha Tinh, diagnosed with tyrosine metabolism disorder, heart rhythm disorder... In the first 6 months of 2023, the health insurance fund paid 0.95 billion VND for the child, increasing the total health insurance cost paid in 18 months from 2022 to 3.54 billion VND.
In addition, a 5-year-old patient in Hoa Binh city, Hoa Binh province, suffering from carbohydrate metabolism disorder, was also paid 3.51 billion VND by the health insurance fund in 1.5 years. In the first 6 months of 2023 alone, the payment amount was 1.63 billion VND.
According to Vietnam Social Security, in recent years, the Health Insurance Fund has paid more than 100,000 billion VND each year for health insurance examination and treatment.
In the first 6 months of 2023, the whole country had nearly 83 million people receiving inpatient and outpatient health insurance treatment with the amount of assessment and payment of over 57,000 billion VND, an increase of nearly 10,800 billion VND compared to the same period in 2022. The average rate of inpatient treatment prescribed nationwide in the first 6 months of 2023 was 10%, an increase of 1.7% compared to the same period last year.
Currently, health insurance patients coming for medical examination and treatment can use the health insurance card image on the VssID application instead of using paper health insurance cards.
