The Ministry of Health has just issued a list of 62 rare and serious diseases that do not require a hospital referral, and patients are still entitled to 100% health insurance benefits.
The list of 62 diseases was published in the Circular detailing and guiding the implementation of a number of articles of the Law on Health Insurance, dated January 1.
Accordingly, they belong to the group of infectious diseases, cancers, metabolic disorders, lysosomal storage disorders, neurological, cardiovascular, pulmonary, skin diseases, congenital malformations and special conditions such as anti-tuberculosis drug resistance, war sequelae, or organ transplant conditions.
People with these diseases, when diagnosed at the initial level, can go directly to a specialized facility for examination and treatment without a referral letter, and still enjoy 100% of health insurance benefits according to regulations.
If you self-examine at a specialist level and are diagnosed with the above diseases, health insurance benefits will also be applied from the first examination. However, health insurance does not cover benefits outside the list in case the patient registers for additional examination.
In the past, most incurable diseases could not be treated at the commune or district level, but patients still had to go through referral procedures to enjoy health insurance, causing inconvenience and wasting time. Many people were not patient enough or could not wait, so they chose to seek medical services, leading to loss of health insurance benefits. With the new regulation, patients will be able to go directly to specialized medical facilities, helping to save time, avoid inconvenience in referral procedures and ensure health insurance benefits.
