After beating England in the Euro 2024 final, Spanish prodigy Lamine Yamal let his girlfriend Alex Padilla hold the championship medal and the title of Best Young Player of the tournament.
After the final whistle, Spanish players lifted the Euro 2024 title and celebrated with family and loved ones at the Olympic Stadium, Berlin.
Here, Yamal made his girlfriend Padilla's age public for the first time. The 17-year-old midfielder presented his girlfriend with both the championship medal and the title of best young player of Euro 2024. He smiled brightly, leaning on his girlfriend to take a souvenir photo.
Padilla has attracted more than 300,000 followers on TikTok and wears a Spain shirt with her boyfriend's name and number on the back. According to Marca, Padilla attended some Euro 2024 matches and sat with Yamal's family.
Yamal had a historic tournament, becoming the youngest player to play, the youngest player to assist, the youngest player to score, the youngest player to play in a final, the youngest player to assist in a final and the youngest player to win the Euro.
The 17-year-old midfielder's most memorable performance was a left-footed shot from 25 metres, which went into the top corner and hit the inside of the post into the net, equalising 1-1 against France in the semi-finals. In doing so, Yamal broke two Pele records that had stood for 68 years at a major tournament, becoming the youngest player to play and score in the semi-finals of a Euro or World Cup.
In the final in Berlin on July 14, Yamal continued to shine with a pass for Nico Williams to finish diagonally to open the scoring. Yamal has four assists at Euro 2024, the best achievement in a single Euro and equal to Steven Zuber in 2020, Aaron Ramsey, Eden Hazard in 2016 and Ljubinko Drulovic in 2000.
A day later, Yamal and his teammates returned to Spain to parade the championship. Luis de la Fuente and his team went to Zarzuela Palace to meet the King, Queen and two princesses of Spain and Moncloa Palace to meet Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
Yamal will have a few weeks of summer vacation before joining up with Barca for the 2024-2025 season. His father, Nasraoui, hopes his son will become a greater player than the legendary Lionel Messi.
"You can't imagine how proud I am of Yamal," he told the British newspaper The Telegraph. "I always knew that Yamal would achieve success. I had faith that he could give his all and be greater than Messi."
