Handling more than 9,000 "alcoholics" in 4 peak days

During the 4 days of ensuring traffic safety and order during the Lunar New Year, more than 9,000 "drunkards" across the country were dealt with by authorities.

On the afternoon of January 14, information from the Traffic Police Department (CSGT), Ministry of Public Security, during the 4 days of the 2024 Lunar New Year peak (from January 11 to present), functional forces nationwide handled 39,981 cases of violations of road traffic order and safety; fined 88.3 billion VND; temporarily detained 13,087 vehicles, revoked 8,032 driving licenses of all types.

Of these, there were 9,098 cases of drivers violating alcohol concentration, 8,239 cases of speeding violations and 47 cases of drug violations.

The number of overloaded vehicles handled was 740 cases; 181 cases of oversized vehicles; 7 cases of vehicle conversion.

Authorities launched a campaign to punish many cases of alcohol concentration violations.

On National Highway 1A alone, directly supervised and directed by the Traffic Police Department, units controlled 24,781 vehicles (4,187 passenger cars, 6,363 trucks, 3,876 cars, 1,432 container trucks, 8,862 motorbikes and 61 other vehicles).

Through that, the traffic police discovered and recorded 4,919 violations (including 684 passenger cars, 918 trucks, 758 cars, 160 container trucks, 2,377 motorbikes and 22 other vehicles). The total fine was nearly 11 billion VND, more than 1,000 driving licenses of all kinds were revoked.

According to a representative of the Traffic Police Department, the peak plan to ensure traffic safety and social order on the above traffic routes will last until March 9.

On the road, the national traffic police focus on handling violations of alcohol and drug concentrations, speeding, driving in the wrong lane; avoiding, overtaking, stopping, and parking in violation of regulations; vehicles with extended cargo beds, carrying overloaded or oversized goods; carrying more people than the prescribed number; picking up and dropping off passengers at the wrong place...

In addition, the Traffic Police will also focus on inspecting and handling vehicles transporting goods and passengers on highways, national highways, provincial roads, district roads, urban roads, and rural roads.
