Rumored to be one of the first Volvo electric cars sold in Vietnam, the EX30 recently made a notable appearance at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show.
After debuting in Singapore in January, the Volvo EX30 continues to be present at the largest car event in Southeast Asia in early 2024, the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS 2024). The smallest SUV of the Swedish brand is rumored to join the EC40 as the first two electric cars of Volvo distributed in Vietnam in the future.
Returning to the Volvo EX30 that appeared at BIMS 2024 recently, this small SUV attracted attention not only for its design and technology but also for its price. In Thailand, the Volvo EX30 has 3 versions priced at 1.59, 1.79 and 1.89 million baht, equivalent to 1.08, 1.21 and 1.28 billion VND, respectively. This is a quite affordable price for an electric SUV with the Volvo brand.
As Volvo's smallest SUV, the EX30 is just 4,233 mm long, 1,837 mm wide and 1,555 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. This is significantly smaller than the XC40 - Volvo's smallest petrol SUV (4,440 mm x 1,863 mm x 1,652 mm, wheelbase 2,702 mm).
In terms of design, the Volvo EX30 is considered a smaller version of the EX90 due to many similarities. The front of the car is a closed grille, full LED headlights with the "T" daytime running lights typical of the Swedish brand.
Meanwhile, the rear design is similar to the senior electric vehicle EC40 with C-shaped LED taillights. The difference is that the EX30's lights are divided into 2 levels and the lower half is connected to the two sides by a black frame.
The car on display in Thailand has standard 18-inch 5-spoke rims. These rims are designed in a solid form to reduce air turbulence in the wheel area, increasing aerodynamics to help improve the vehicle's operating range.
The most notable feature of the Volvo EX30 is its powerful performance. The car has 2 drive options, one is a single motor located on the rear axle and the other is a dual motor combined with AWD 4-wheel drive system.
In particular, the dual motor is equipped on the highest-end version, creating a total capacity of 428 horsepower and 543 Nm of torque. This system helps the car accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, which is close to some supercars.
The remaining two versions use a single motor with a capacity of 272 horsepower, torque of 343 Nm. However, even though it is a lower version, it can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds.
According to Paultan, all three versions of the Volvo EX30 in Thailand are equipped with a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack with a capacity of 69 kWh (64 kWh usable). The battery pack provides a WLTP-standard operating range of 480 km on the low-end version and 460 km on the high-end AWD version.
The maximum AC charging rate is 11 kW, which can fully charge the battery in 7.5 hours. The car also supports DC fast charging up to 153 kW, which can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in 26.5 minutes.
In terms of equipment, the standard Vovlo EX30 will have single-zone climate control, manually adjustable front seats, heated steering wheel/seats, pixel LED headlights, 12.3-inch central touchscreen, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay infotainment system, Harman Kardon speakers, adaptive Cruise Control with automatic steering support and Volvo's ADAS suite.
The premium version adds 19-20 inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, dark-tinted windows, electric front seats and trunk, dual-zone climate control, interior ambient lighting, 360-degree camera, front cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning…
