Design and ergonomics

VinFast DrgnFly has a different design compared to other electric bicycles on the market, bearing the style of American cruiser bicycles born in the 20th century, featuring a large diamond-shaped aluminum frame, large "balloon" terrain wheels, long saddle, and high U-shaped handlebars.

The DrgnFly's battery is compact, with a capacity of 640 Wh, placed under the saddle to form a seamless block, making it difficult for first-timers to know that this is an electric bicycle. The battery can be removed for charging at home. The vehicle has dimensions of length, width, and height of 1,730 x 720 x 1,056 (mm), saddle height of 795 mm, and vehicle weight of 32 kg.

This design helps DrgnFly to have a comfortable sitting position, similar to a small scooter, with the seat in a low position, the handlebars placed high. The fixed height of the seat means that for people over 1.7 m tall, if they have to pedal for a long time, long distances can cause leg fatigue.

The only adjustment of the riding position is by moving the saddle forward or backward. However, if the bike is used in pure electric mode, without using the pedals, this sitting position does not affect the rider's comfort.

The left side of the handlebar is where the vehicle's controller is located, and the right side is the electric motor activation button. The controller is equipped with a color screen that displays information, speed, running modes, and battery level. This screen is a bit difficult to see in bright sunlight, but the control buttons on the screen are physical, allowing the driver to fine-tune the driving mode without having to look at the screen. On the right side of the handlebar, the driver can activate the electric motor with his thumb, and must always hold it during this process.

The vehicle is equipped with round front lights and LED strip taillights. The main purpose of this cluster of lights is to increase the vehicle's visibility when driving in low light conditions, not to illuminate a wide, far-reaching area like a motorbike.

The DrgnFly has only one air shock absorber on the front wheel. This type of shock absorber can be adjusted by a knob, the rider can adjust the shock absorber to be less damped when going on rough terrain, to increase the stability of the vehicle, or adjust the shock absorber to be more damped for increased comfort when driving on smooth roads.

Operate

The DrgnFly's motor is integrated in the rear wheel, with a capacity of 250W. DrgnFly is equipped with many driving modes, according to the level of power assistance from low to high: Eco, Tour, Sport and Boost. There is also a Zero mode without power assistance. When driving in power assistance modes, the vehicle will automatically activate the motor when the driver pedals, and stop power assistance when the vehicle reaches a certain speed.

In addition, the driver can manually activate the engine by pressing the button on the right side of the handlebar, at which point the electric motor will operate to accelerate the vehicle, without the driver having to pedal.

In the speed range of 0-30 km/h, when using force, the vehicle gives a light, comfortable driving feeling when the driver does not have to spend much effort to pedal. DrgnFly does not have a front or rear derailleur, meaning the vehicle only has one "gear". Therefore, the vehicle is suitable for speeds of about 40 km/h or less, even with the help of an electric motor.

DrgnFly's "fat" and multi-studded off-road tires help the vehicle have good grip, increasing the sense of safety when driving on wet, slippery roads. In addition, the large size tires also help the vehicle go more smoothly when going through rough, rocky roads, or when going over potholes and speed bumps. The front and rear brakes are hydraulic discs, so they give a good braking feel and a short braking distance.

According to the manufacturer's announcement, DrgnFly can travel 110 km in power-assisted mode, or 75 km in pure electric mode. In reality, depending on the level of intervention, the distance will be shorter than the announcement. The actual travel distance with medium power-assisted mode is about 60-70 km for one battery charge.

To increase personality, the car is not equipped with front or rear fenders, so the driver will have to pay more attention when going through puddles or in the rain, to avoid getting splashed with water.
