After winning 2-1 in the first leg at Viet Tri Stadium, Vietnam defeated Thailand 3-2 at Rajamangala Stadium to win the 2024 ASEAN Cup with a 5-3 aggregate victory. This is the first time Thailand has lost both Southeast Asian football finals.

This is also the second time Vietnam has stopped an opponent who is aiming to win the championship for the third time in a row. Previously, the team did this in 2008 when they eliminated defending champions Singapore in the semi-finals. In addition, the only other team to do the same was Malaysia when they defeated Thailand in the semi-finals in 2018.

Vietnam also equaled Singapore's record of two wins over Thailand in the ASEAN Cup finals. Singapore did this in 2007 and 2012, while Vietnam defeated the Thai team in 2008 and 2024. Apart from Singapore and Vietnam, no team has ever defeated Thailand in the finals.

Vietnam also set a record of winning 7 matches in the ASEAN Cup. After 29 years of history, no team has done this in a single tournament, not even Thailand. Coach Kim Sang-sik's team finished the tournament with 7 wins, 1 draw, and 0 losses.

Vietnam also achieved the highest goal difference in the history of the team in the tournament (+14), with 20 goals and 6 goals conceded. The previous personal record of Vietnam set in the previous tournament was +13 with 16 goals and 3 goals conceded. The tournament record was +16 set by Indonesia in 2004, although they did not win the championship.

Vietnam finished the tournament with 20 goals, the second best result in the history of participating in the tournament, after 21 goals scored in 2002. But this is the first time the team has had two players score four goals or more, Xuan Son and Tien Linh.

Xuan Son ended the tournament with 7 goals, becoming the first Vietnamese player to win the "Top Scorer" award. Last time, Tien Linh also received this award but shared it with Teerasil Dangda, with 6 goals.

Xuan Son even "gained" his opponents in the first three matches but was still "unrivaled" in this race. However, he could not break the record for scoring in an ASEAN Cup, held by Noh Alam Shah with 10 goals for Singapore in 2007.
