In winter, many motorbikes are often difficult to start, so what is the cause and how to fix it?
Reasons why motorbikes are difficult to start in winter
Motorcycles are difficult to start on winter mornings mainly because low temperatures reduce the evaporation of fuel. As a result, the fuel-air mixture is not dense enough.
In addition, when the weather is cold (high humidity), the amount of air in the engine condenses into small water droplets in the carburetor and fuel line. Therefore, the amount of air needed for starting the car is lacking, leading to a difficult starting situation.
Furthermore, the condensation can clog some fuel lines or affect the ignition system and quickly form spark plug carbon.
How to fix
With a manual transmission vehicle, do not turn the key on immediately, instead, press the starter lever a few times. Next, pull the belt to help start the vehicle more easily. You can use the starter lever to press a few times until the vehicle starts.
Note, when starting, do not pull the throttle because it will increase the amount of air entering the carburetor, causing the mixture of gasoline and air to be thin, making it difficult to start. At this time, start the engine a few times to start the engine, then pull the throttle gently. When the engine has started, keep the throttle steady and pull the belt back to its original position so that the engine does not start loudly.
With a scooter, turn on the ignition key, then pull the throttle a few times before starting. This way, the mixture of air and gasoline will fill the pipe, down to the combustion chamber, making the engine easier to start. During the starting process, if you start the vehicle 2 or 3 times without starting, wait about 5 - 10 seconds and then start again. This way, the battery will not be overloaded and will last longer.
If the vehicle is not used for 6 hours or more during the day, before starting the engine, turn off all lights, kick start, pull the air filter and turn the key to start the engine.
When starting, turn off all headlights or turn signals to increase the power supply to the starter motor.
To overcome the problem of motorbikes being difficult to start in winter, experts recommend that users maintain their vehicles regularly. Pay attention to cleaning the spark plugs and adjusting the carburetor to avoid affecting the durability of the engine as well as fuel consumption.
