Being proactive in production investment, regularly innovating technology, and receiving attention from the government and organizations are the conditions for many Kim Thanh farmers (Hai Duong) to become billionaires.
Model diversity
It was past 1 p.m. but the stone table and chair manufacturing workshop of Mr. Tran Van Thang's family in Cam Dong village (Tuan Viet commune) was already bustling. Each person had a different step to create complete sets of tables and chairs. In 2006, the workshop was small, with only a few workers. Up to now, Mr. Thang has expanded to 3,000 m², creating jobs for over 20 workers with an income of 10 million VND/person/month. Each year, he supplies about 300 sets of tables and chairs to customers in and outside the province, earning over 1 billion VND in profit. Mr. Thang said: "In the near future, I will expand the workshop by another 2,000 m², creating jobs for more workers, mainly people in the village and commune."
In Kim Thanh, each person chooses a different profession to get rich. Inheriting the family carpentry profession, Mr. Le Van Thu in Hai Ninh village (Kim Tan commune) has developed this profession to become stronger and stronger. According to Mr. Thu, in the past, he only made simple items such as beds and cabinets for people in the village and commune. In recent years, when there were supporting machines and people's demand for furniture increased, he expanded the workshop to 700 m2 with a variety of products, including handicrafts. Mr. Thu always puts reputation first, so his products have reached the whole country. Thanks to that, his workshop's revenue also reached 3-4 billion VND/year.
Meanwhile, Mr. Dong Van Thuan, also from Ninh Hai village (Kim Tan commune), has become rich from aquaculture. After many years of diligently expanding farming and searching for markets, Mr. Thuan now has a farm of over 40 hectares, supplying the market with 80-100 tons of aquatic products per year and hundreds of thousands of fish fry. Annual revenue reaches 5 billion VND, with a profit of over 1 billion VND.
Active support
In recent years, the movement of farmers competing in production and business excellence in Kim Thanh district has developed strongly, attracting a large number of farmers to participate. In 2023, the district had 16,556 households registered for excellence at 4 levels, accounting for 63.9% of the total number of farmer households. Through evaluation, 13 households achieved the central level, 194 households achieved the provincial level, 2,095 households achieved the district level and 9,068 households at the grassroots level. By income level, 666 households had an income of 1 billion VND or more/household; 1,520 households had an income of 500 million VND to less than 1 billion VND; 6,120 households had an income of 200 million VND to less than 500 million VND...
The Kim Thanh District Farmers' Association has implemented many measures to promote the movement of good farmers in production and business. Based on the regulations issued by the Central Association, the District and Commune Farmers' Associations have developed plans, directed and mobilized farmers to register; assigned implementation targets to each facility, branch, and association group. During the implementation process, regular inspections and supervision are conducted to evaluate, draw lessons, and promptly propose measures to effectively direct the implementation of the movement.
The Association cooperated with the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to entrust capital for agricultural and rural development of over 1,000 billion VND. The Bank for Social Policies disbursed nearly 115 billion VND to households for production loans. The Association regularly organized visits and learned about new models of cultivation and livestock breeding so that households could access new technologies, thereby learning and applying them to production, contributing to increasing the value of goods.
Each association has a different way of creating conditions for farmers to become rich. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hien, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Kim Tan commune, said: "For households that need land for production, the association propagates and mobilizes households to exchange fields to form large production areas, so in Kim Tan there are many households with an area of 30-40 hectares."
In addition to the support from all levels and sectors, there is also the initiative of households. Mr. Tran Van Thang in Cam Dong village (Tuan Viet commune) added: “To stand firm in the current volatile market, businesses must be quick and grasp consumer tastes to produce suitable products. I regularly innovate designs and styles, and when I see the market is saturated, I have to change the model accordingly.”
With the participation of the government, organizations, and the initiative of the people, good production and business models in Kim Thanh have all developed sustainably, bringing high economic efficiency.
