From islands or remote border areas, the volunteer youth of young men and women has, is, and will leave behind many more good stories and good deeds, thereby multiplying the meaning of the volunteer movement.

There are many ways to do volunteer work, not necessarily waiting for a movement. Many young people have chosen that way to help others. The young man Phung Quang Trung is one of those young people who have chosen his own path.

At the age of 30, originally from Hanoi, Phung Quang Trung chose to stay in Hai Duong. Fate brought him to a job that is not new but full of love, meaning and humanity, which is "bringing martyrs back to their mothers".

On August 19, 2024, on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the success of the August Revolution, martyr Dang Ngoc Thoc (born in 1936) and his younger brother, martyr Dang Van Bang (born in 1947) "returned to their mother" in Huu Chung village, Hong Quang commune (Thanh Mien). The most special and touching thing is the photo of the two martyrs being restored, gathering with their mother, Heroic Vietnamese Mother Nguyen Thi Ngach (109 years old) and their father, Mr. Dang Van Tien (113 years old) to have a warm meal. Mother Nguyen Thi Ngach kept pointing at the photo: "You children have been gone for so long, now you have returned to your mother!". There is nothing that can describe the emotion of the family when receiving the portraits of their children. It's been half a century since the children came back to visit their mother, but in a way that couldn't be more special, and the person who made that miracle happen was a young man who didn't wear the green volunteer uniform but volunteered to bring indescribable happiness to the families of martyrs.

One day last June, while receiving the portraits of the two sons of martyrs Nguyen Ba Duong and Nguyen Ba Trung, Heroic Vietnamese Mother Le Thi Luy (born in 1923) in An Gioi village, An Son commune (Nam Sach), although no longer lucid, suddenly became clear-headed: "My two sons are here. My sons are so handsome". Hearing the words of the Heroic Vietnamese Mother who is over 100 years old, everyone burst into tears. Looking at the photo of her son Nguyen Ba Duong, the mother said, on the day he joined the army, he only ate one bowl of rice, the rest was for his siblings. Then he put on his backpack and left in 1969 and just "returned" now. "I'm just afraid he'll be hungry", the mother cried.

The war has long since ended, but its pain still lingers. That has motivated the young man Phung Quang Trung to be even more determined to do something practical to share the sadness of the martyrs' families.

For the past 2 years, Phung Quang Trung and his friends have been quietly carrying out this meaningful work in Hai Duong. Initially, the group had 5 people, then more young men volunteered to join. Each person has a job to make a living but they all share a mission to share, giving themselves the responsibility of soothing the pain left by war.

Over the past 2 years, thousands of martyrs' photos have been restored by Phung Quang Trung's group. He only hopes that he is healthy enough to carry out this meaningful work because the number of blurred martyrs' photos and martyrs without photos is still too large. For Phung Quang Trung, there are many ways to volunteer, as long as the work brings benefits to the community. He hopes that his work will contribute a small part to spreading love for his homeland and country, and respecting the great sacrifices of generations of fathers and brothers in the past who brought peace to this land!

For a young doctor like Nguyen Van Duong, Vice Chairman of the Young Doctors Club of Hai Duong Province, Head of the Nursing Department (Rehabilitation Hospital), the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic was a memorable milestone for his expertise and volunteer activities. As Secretary of the hospital's Youth Union, Duong was always at the forefront of all activities. During the days when the Covid-19 pandemic was raging, the streets were deserted, but regardless of rain or shine, he and his friends went to every nook and cranny, distributing propaganda leaflets, distributing soap and instructing people on how to disinfect at bus and train stations. "When the Covid-19 vaccine was still scarce, a part of the people were panicking and afraid. In addition to propagating epidemic prevention, we also had the task of encouraging people to feel secure and follow the instructions. I myself was worried at that time, but as a doctor, as a member of the Youth Union, I accepted the difficulties, even the dangers," said Duong.

At that time, Mr. Duong's youth union also researched and made 200 protective glasses for medical staff and he participated in the "Companion Doctor Network" established by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Young Doctors Association to support Covid-19 patients as a member doctor in area 725 (Binh Duong).

"Covid-19 has been suppressed, life has returned to normal. In the medical team across the country, many doctors and nurses have been infected, some have not survived. These are great losses, but we are always proud of our role as people on the front lines against the epidemic. For me, that is volunteering, contributing my small part to bring happiness to the people," said Mr. Duong.

There are many more volunteer examples and their meaningful activities are recognized by the community. 2,798 young volunteers from 129 youth volunteer teams in Hai Duong is the latest number recorded by the Provincial Youth Union.

The youth volunteer movement is increasingly widespread and widespread. Not only in Hai Duong, Hai Duong youth volunteers also go to many provinces and cities across the country such as Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Son La...
