The 2-6 defeat to U19 Australia means U19 Vietnam is likely to be eliminated early from the 2024 Southeast Asian U19 tournament.

With only 1 point in the opening match against U19 Myanmar, U19 Vietnam is facing difficulties in competing for a place in the next round. Coach Hua Hien Vinh and his team continued to play poorly and suffered a heavy defeat against U19 Australia in the second round.

U19 Vietnam started the game well. The players tried to control the ball and coordinate attacks with short passes in the middle, interspersed with attacks with long balls to the two wings.

However, while engrossed in attacking, U19 Vietnam made a mistake when they lost the ball in a simple situation. U19 Australia counter-attacked and Jake Najdovski was there at the right time to open the score.

After conceding the goal, U19 Vietnam lost their composure and could not maintain the high level of organization as in the early stages of the match. In the 39th minute, U19 Australia quickly changed their stance and sent the ball to Jake Najdovski. The striker wearing the number 17 jersey easily defeated goalkeeper Cao Van Binh from close range, raising the score to 2-0.

In the second half, U19 Vietnam conceded the third goal when Sulemani accelerated and shot while facing the goalkeeper. Dang Khoa narrowed the gap, lighting up hope for U19 Vietnam with a dangerous long-range shot. However, he and his teammates could not create any surprises in the remaining time.

In the 66th minute, Jake Najdovski completed his hat-trick against U19 Vietnam. The Vietnamese defenders allowed their opponents to freely handle the ball near the goal and finish easily. Not long after, U19 Australia scored the 5th goal thanks to Helweh, also from poor defense by U19 Vietnam.

Coach Hua Hien Vinh's players had another goal from Nguyen Bao Long from the penalty spot. However, the 4-goal gap was restored just before the end of the match. Vickery made a beautiful long-range shot.

Most of the goals conceded by U19 Vietnam followed the same scenario. Coach Hua Hien Vinh's players lost the ball when many players were on the Australian field and did not have enough speed to keep up with the counterattacks of the opposing team.

Losing 2-6, U19 Vietnam will certainly be eliminated if U19 Thailand and U19 Myanmar both win in Group C tomorrow, July 22.
