Hai Duong University meets the requirements of creating a source of teachers

Open 6 university-level pedagogical majors

Hai Duong College, formerly Hai Duong Pedagogical College, was established in 1960. Over the past 60 years, Hai Duong College has trained and fostered tens of thousands of preschool, primary and secondary school teachers... for Hai Duong, Hung Yen and neighboring provinces.

Continuing the tradition, after merging Hai Duong College into Hai Duong University, the new Hai Duong University will have full conditions to train high-quality university-level teachers to meet the needs of studying and recruiting teachers in the province and region.

The school has a team of educational administrators and many highly qualified lecturers. Just counting the team serving the needs of teacher training, the school has more than 250 staff and lecturers, of which 50 are PhDs, the rest are masters. Some lecturers have many years of teaching experience at universities. The school has full classrooms and equipment to meet training needs such as multi-function rooms, practice laboratories, in addition to a multi-purpose gymnasium, swimming pool, dormitory to fully meet the accommodation needs of students.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quyen, Vice Principal of Hai Duong University, said that the school has a system of practical schools that few places have, namely Hoa Sen Practical Kindergarten, Chu Van An Primary School, Chu Van An Secondary School and Chu Van An High School. These are good resources to meet the training needs associated with professional practice, promoting the capacity of students.

In the immediate future, the school has been approved by the Ministry of Education and Training to train 6 majors in mathematics, literature, English, natural sciences, primary education, and preschool education at university level. These are very important majors to meet the recruitment needs of schools, especially the natural sciences major will remove difficulties in teaching integrated subjects according to the new general education program.

The above 6 pedagogical codes have been newly built and updated according to professional competency standards, meeting the requirements of the new general education program in 2018. These 6 pedagogical codes are being recruited by Hai Duong University in 2023. In the immediate future, the school plans to enroll about 1,150 students for the pedagogical sector. In the following years, the school will enroll an average of 1,500-2,000 students per year for the pedagogical sector; maintaining the enrollment and training scale of 6,000-8,000 students.

Create a source of teacher recruitment

However, the initial stages of the merger always have difficulties. At the meeting with the province, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son suggested that the school should have a plan to strengthen training and improve the quality of the teaching staff because the teaching staff is being trained from college level to university level. Promote student recruitment and soon have a plan to prepare to open more pedagogical majors that are in serious shortage such as information technology and art...

In recent years, teacher recruitment has been a challenge. In 2022, most localities had lower numbers of candidates applying for teacher recruitment than the recruitment target. In some localities, the registration rate only accounted for 42% of the recruitment target. In 2022, the recruitment target was more than 1,700 teachers and staff, but only more than 980 were recruited.

According to the Department of Home Affairs, the province is currently short of about 1,440 teachers and staff according to job positions in the payroll quota. Hopefully, the 2023 recruitment will continue to supplement the missing teachers.

To attract candidates to study pedagogy, the Department of Education and Training has also drafted a teacher training plan for Hai Duong province for the period 2023-2025 according to Decree 116/2020/ND-CP dated September 25, 2020 of the Government regulating policies to support tuition fees and living expenses for pedagogy students, consulted relevant departments, agencies and units, then prepared a dossier to submit to the Provincial People's Committee to issue the plan as soon as possible.
