China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, has completely rejected the US's groundless accusations against China.
Mr. Geng Shuang stressed that China is neither the cause of the Ukraine crisis nor a party to the crisis. China's efforts for peace have been witnessed by the international community and recognized and supported by the majority of countries.
Russia, Ukraine, countries of the Southern Hemisphere and many European countries have expressed their appreciation for China’s role in resolving the Ukraine crisis. Only the US has chosen to ignore China’s efforts and continues to spread disinformation to the public.
"The US cannot, on the one hand, want China to play a bigger role in ending the conflict, and on the other hand, continuously discredit China's peace efforts, while creating conditions and atmosphere for a political solution to the Ukraine crisis," the Chinese Deputy Permanent Representative said.
Russia had previously requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on the issue of Western arms supplies to Ukraine since the war broke out on February 24, 2022. Russia sought to promote the meeting to present its view that arms supplies to Ukraine are contributing to the escalation of hostilities and undermining efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the conflict.
At the meeting, US Representative Robert Wood addressed Russia’s actions and China’s stance on the conflict. Commenting on China’s approach, Wood said that China has not used its influence to stop Russia from attacking Ukrainian territory.
Meanwhile, Russia's Permanent Representative, Vasily Nebenzya, blamed the West's actions for the origins of the conflict, saying: "If the United States had not supported the coup in Kiev in 2014, had not funded it, had not turned Ukraine into an anti-Russian state… there would have been no war."
