China on December 17 condemned new US sanctions against Beijing, saying it would take “all necessary measures” to protect Chinese companies.

“China is strongly dissatisfied with and resolutely opposed to this,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said in a statement.

Previously, on December 16, the US Treasury Department announced the addition of 8 more Chinese entities to the investment blacklist.

Specifically, the US announced sanctions against three Chinese painkiller manufacturers.

These sanctions were issued under an executive order issued by President Joe Biden to facilitate the control of organizations and individuals involved in the drug trade. The new order allows US law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties in dealing with this problem.

These actions “will help disrupt the global supply chains and financial networks that allow synthetic opioids and precursor chemicals to be smuggled into the United States,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

The US Treasury will also impose sanctions on four Chinese chemical companies and an individual - Chuen Fat Yip, whom Washington describes as one of the world's largest manufacturers of anabolic steroids.
