Delta Airlines plane takes off from JFK airport

French authorities said on November 30 that a woman in her 50s holding a Russian passport boarded Delta Air Lines flight DL264 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York in the middle of the week and then landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris without a ticket and valid identification.

This person boarded the plane successfully after passing through two checkpoints of the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Delta airline ticket check without being detected.

During the flight of more than 7 hours, the flight attendant began to suspect that this person was a stowaway when she saw her constantly moving between restrooms, almost never returning to her seat.

"It appears she hid in the bathroom at the back of the plane as we were leaving JFK. Passengers only learned about the incident when the captain made an announcement as the plane entered the terminal. They asked us to stay seated because the French police would be on board to deal with a 'serious security situation,'" said Rob Jackson, a passenger on the flight.

Because she did not have a valid visa, the woman was denied entry to France and was scheduled to be deported to the United States. However, on her return flight to New York on November 30, she became disruptive and prevented the plane from taking off, forcing security personnel to remove her from the plane. The woman is currently being held at Charles de Gaulle Airport, and French authorities are considering next steps.

The incident has raised concerns about security gaps at major airports, especially during peak travel times. US authorities are working to improve screening procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Delta Air Lines and the TSA are conducting an internal investigation to determine how the woman bypassed security measures at JFK. Delta stressed that it prioritizes the safety of all flights and is committed to cooperating with authorities throughout the investigation.
