Trinh Thu Vinh ranked fourth in the qualifying round with 587 points, thereby entering the final of the women's 25m air pistol at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Trinh Thu Vinh competed with 39 other shooters, divided into two rounds. The women's 25m air pistol event had two fast and slow shooting events. Each event had six rounds of five bullets each, then the total score was calculated. The qualifying round selected the eight shooters with the highest scores to enter the finals.
The shooters had five minutes to shoot a slow-fire series. Thu Vinh competed in the first round and scored 290 points to temporarily rank fifth. She had 20 10s, including 11 hits on the bullseye, the rest were 9s.
After the second slow-fire round, seven shooters had better results, causing Thu Vinh to drop to 12th place, four points behind the top position of Hungarian athlete Veronica Major. The 2000-born shooter was one point behind the five positions above her, but also faced fierce competition as four others also scored 290 points, only surpassing her in the number of shots hitting the bulls-eye.
At 5:00 p.m., Trinh Thu Vinh entered the rapid fire section and performed excellently to create a breakthrough. With rapid fire, each shooter has seven seconds to prepare for shooting with the gun held at a 45-degree angle, then three seconds to take aim.
Trinh Thu Vinh performed well in the first half, shooting 15 consecutive 10s. In the next five shots, she scored three more 10s and two nines, finishing the two series with 100 and 98 points respectively. In the final series, Thu Vinh scored nine more perfect points to reach 99 points.
With 297 points, the Vietnamese shooter ranked second in the rapid fire category. Above him was Hungarian athlete Veronica Major with one more point.
Thu Vinh's total score after two rounds was 587 points, with 25 shots hitting the bull's eye, helping her to finish fourth overall. Leading the way was Major with 592 points, followed by Manu Bhaker (India) - 590 points and Haniyeh Rostamiyan (Iran) - 588 points.

This is Trinh Thu Vinh's final event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Before that, she qualified and finished fourth in the women's 10m air pistol final. She became the second Vietnamese shooter to reach the finals of two shooting events in one Olympics, after Hoang Xuan Vinh - the legend who won the gold medal in the 10m and the silver medal in the men's 50m air pistol at Rio 2016.
Thu Vinh was born in 2000 in Thanh Hoa, but competes for the People's Public Security team. At the 31st SEA Games, she won a bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol and received major investment. Vinh won a ticket to the 2024 Olympics by finishing fifth in the 2023 World Championship qualifiers, with 579 points. She then won a gold medal in the 10m mixed pistol at the 2024 Asian Championship, along with 19th Asian Games champion Pham Quang Huy.
